A Brownsville teen is behind bars after allegedly leading deputies on a chase because his friends told him not to stop.

Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 17-year-old Omar Alejandro Medellin early Thursday morning.

Court records show that Medellin was driving a red Pontiac Grand Prix off Avenida Eduardo in the Cameron Park area.

The deputy tried to pull Medellin over for speeding but the teen allegedly refused to stop and drove through the neighborhood.

Two passengers bailed out in another neighborhood on the other side of Dana Avenue.

The two passengers got away but the chase ended for Medellin at a dead end on Glynnwood Drive.

According to the records, Medellin was giving two friends a ride home and refused to stop because they told him not to.

Medellin remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $7,500 dollar bond.
