A Cameron County man is behind bars after authorities found $52,000 dollars stuffed in his baby's teddy bears and his wife's purse.
Cameron County District Attorney's Office investigators arrested 35-year-old Mauricio Fabian Bermudez-Rodriguez on a money laundering charge on Wednesday afternoon.
Court records released Thursday show that an investigator pulled him over for rolling through a stop sign off Washington and Villa Maria Streets in Brownsville.
The records show that Bermudez-Rodriguez was with his wife and their 5-month-old baby but appeared nervous.
An investigator found a baggie with a white powdery substance on the floor of his car prompting authorities to search the rest of his Nissan Altima.
Authorities found $47,000 dollars in cash inside two bundles hidden inside two teddy bears and another $5,000 dollars inside his wife's purse.
Bermudez-Rodriguez allegedly told investigators that the cash was his.
Investigators went to his house where they allegedly found a scale with cocaine residue and a ledger documenting transactions in dollars and grams.
Bermudez-Rodriguez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail where Border Patrol agents have filed a detainer against him.
