One teenage girl is dead after a rollover accident involving an all-terrain vehicle in a rural area of Willacy County.
It all happened off Larosita Road east of Lyford just after 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accident.
State troopers told Action 4 News that seven teenage girls were riding an ATV when they hit a patch of mud causing a rollover accident.
One teenage girl was killed at the scene while a second female is in critical condition at a local hospital.
The other girls were transported to a hospital for evaluation but did not appear to have serious injuries.
According to investigators, the teens were riding from one house to another about three miles away, when the accident occurred.
The teens did have permission to be on the ATV.
Authorities are not releasing the names of the girls but witnesses said they were all sophomores at Lyford High School.
