Two men are behind bars after they allegedly tried to smuggle close to $51,000 dollars of cash into Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrestd 37-year-old Samuel Aguilera, Jr. and 32-year-old Jose Guerrero-Moreno on Friday.
Court records show that the two men were headed into Mexico at Brownsville's B&M International Bridge.
Customs officers sent their Chevrolet Suburban with Mexican license plates to secondary inspection.
Authorities allegedly found $50,199 dollars in cash hidden inside a battery jumper.
Aguilera allegedly admitted to helping Guerrero-Moreno on a previous occasion.
Both Aguilera and Guerrero-Moreno appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Monday morning.
Court records show that Aguilera is an American citizen from Houston while Guerrero-Moreno is a Mexican national from Matamoros.
Judge Morgan denied bond for both men until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
