All over a map of San Juan are areas were homes and vehicles have been the target of thieves in recent months.

San Juan police told Action 4 News they investigate anywhere from five to eight burglaries a week.

As the number of burglaries increase—so does the police departments awareness that something had to be done.

Now four officers are assigned to the Burglary Apprehension Team—24 hours a day and seven days a week.

"If another call comes in we'll assist the officers---but we try to stick with patrolling the streets,” Officer Librado Casas said.

Whether a vehicle has been left unlocked or a garage door left wide open—it is Officer Casas’ job to make sure nothing happens to that property.

"There's not a specific area that they've been targeting,” Casas explained. “It's just been all over the city of San Juan. We're trying to do what we can to prevent it from happening."

So far this year the department has investigated 55 burglaries.
