A 20-year-old Mission man, who is a legal resident of the United States, is behind bars charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly burst into a home north of Edcouch and held the victims at gunpoint.

But he didn’t act alone.

Hidalgo County Sheriff investigators told Action 4 News they continue to work on locating the other men, they believe seven, who helped Cesar Garza-Lopez pull off the home invasion.

Garza-Lopez tried his best to hide from several news cameras inside the Hidalgo County courtroom as he was escorted in front of Judge Bobby Contreras early Thursday morning.

The 20-year-old is accused of breaking into a home North of Edcouch, hitting the homeowner with a one of the guns, as he demanded money and drugs.

Investigators said he did not find what he went there for but did make off with some of the homeowners guns.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said the homeowner had a surveillance system.

"It was his surveillance footage of a vehicle and license plate that led us to the suspect that we arraigned today,” Trevino said.

He added that these systems do not cost much and have become very useful over the years.

Lopez-Garza was charged with aggravated assault and his bond was set at $1 million.

This case remains under investigation.
