A state lawmaker has filed a bill that would require convicted sex offenders to identify themselves and their crimes if they use social media.

Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) filed House Bill 23 back in November.

But the bill was heard by the Texas House of Representatives Criminal Jurisprudence Committee on Tuesday.

The bill remains pending in the committee but adds several requirements for convicted sex offenders using Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks.

House Bill 23 requires convicted sex offenders using those social media networks to:

1) Identify Themselves As Sex Offenders
2) State Their Offense
3) Provide Physical Description of Themselves
4) Provide Their Physical Address

The bill was read on the House floor back in February but must pass comittee before it can return for a vote.
