A Brownsville woman was arrested on Thursday after authorities discovered her home was a stash house.

Law enforcement officials found 13 illegal immigrants inside the residence after they had gained consent to search the home.

The woman, Perla Lara-Rubio, was taken into custody and transported to the HSI office in Harlingen.

During her interview, she said she had been asked by a human smuggler to pick-up two illegal immigrants, a Mexican national and a Guatemala national, and take them to her house.

She said the smuggler had planned to pick up the illegal immigrants later Thursday evening.

Rubio told officials she was expecting to be paid once the immigrants had been picked up.

Border Patrol assisted Homeland Security Investigators with the investigation.
