A San Benito man was arrested after he assaulted his wife several times on Thursday morning.

Police responded to an emergency call around 6 a.m. about a wife and a husband fighting inside a red car.

Authorities spotted the vehicle on Williams and Frontage Road and pulled over the driver at a nearby Stripes Convenience Store.

Officers spoke to the male driver and spotted two familiar passengers inside the car, Jesus Saldivar and his wife.

The officer recognized the couple from a previous domestic violence call just hours before.

However when the officer had responded to an apartment complex for that call, no one claimed to have been victims of any family violence.

This time, the 20-year-old wife spoke out, claiming that as soon as authorities left the apartment complex, Saldivar began choking her with his hands.

According to the woman, she left the house with their baby and walked down South Bowie Street.

She said the driver of the red car and her husband pulled up next to her, demanding that she get inside.

As soon as she got inside, the woman told authorities that they continued to argue. She said Saldivar assaulted her, and at one point bit her on her left leg.
The driver told police he tried stopping the assault.

Saldivar was taken into custody and transported to the San Benito City Jail.

Jesus Saldivar was charged with two counts of Assault Family Violence and Impending Breathing.

He was arraigned by Judge Ben Yudesis, and his bond was set at $35,000.
