A Laureles woman is out on bond after being accused of a scheme where she visited several doctors to get prescriptions for the same pain killer.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 42-year-old Michelle Lee Oropeza on Wednesday.

Court records released on Friday show that Oropeza is accused of going to six doctors to get prescriptions for vicodin since January.

Oropeza allegedly hit up one clinic in Port Isabel and five more in Brownsville.

State troopers learned about the activity from the one of the doctor's offices after they became suspicious she was abusing the medication.

Investigators checked with the doctors and local pharmacies and learned she had filled several prescriptions.

Authorities charged Oropeza with three counts of attempted possession of a controlled substance by fraud.

Oropeza was released from the Cameron County Jail after posting $15,000 dollars in bonds.
