A Harlingen teen was taken to the hospital Friday morning after an accident outside Travis Elementary School.

Police told Action 4 News the teen got out of the passenger side of a stalled vehicle in order to open the door for a younger elementary school student in the back seat.

That’s when another car in the parking lot accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, and t-boned the teen’s family’s vehicle.

The accident caused the teen to suffer minor injuries in the leg.

Harlingen fire crews and police officers immediately responded to the scene in front of the elementary school where it all occurred.

The teen was transported to the hospital as a precaution with non-life threatening injuries.
