Fatal accident reported off FM 732 in San Benito

A San Benito CISD employee is dead after an accident involving a car and a motorcycle in front of a school.

The accident happened in front of Leal Elementary School off FM 732 just before 8 a.m. Friday.

Details remain vague, however, San Benito police said a car and motorcycle collided.

San Benito Consolidated Independent School District officials told the San Benito News that the man killed was a Transportation Department employee Juan Luis Espinoza.

Limon told the newspaper that Espinosa was a bus driver for the school district and that he was on his way to work where he was supposed to transport the high school baseball team to a tournament.

Superintendent Antonio G. Limón issued a statement about the Espinoza's death.

“We are saddened to learn about the death of one of our very own," Limon said in the statement. "At this time, we ask for prayers for the family while they cope with this unexpected and sudden loss.”

Members of the Transportation Department are receiving counseling to cope with Espinoza's death.

The district is in the process of securing contributions from staff members to assist the Espinoza family with funeral expenses.


San Benito CISD mourns loss of Transportation Department employee

School officials just learned that an early morning accident has claimed the life of a San Benito CISD Transportation Department employee.
 
The accident happened this morning in close proximity to the Angela Gerusa Leal Elementary campus, located on FM 732.
 
Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón said, “We are saddened to learn about the death of one of our very own.  At this time, we ask for prayers for the family while they cope with this unexpected and sudden loss.”
 
Rolando Monsevalles, Transportation Department director offered words of praise for the employee, who began working with San Benito CISD in September 2011.
 
“He was a young man with a very bright and promising future with the district,” Monsevalles said.  “He was conscientious, punctual and respectful. He had all the qualities we always look for in career personnel.”
