Teen facing charges after being caught with underage girl

A Harlingen teen is facing criminal charges after he was allegedly caught engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl.

Harlingen police arrested 18-year-old Ruben Torres, Jr. on an indecency with a child charge late Friday night.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Torres and the girl were inside a 1997 Ford Taurus in the parking lot to the side of Sun Valley Mall.

A police officer approached the car and saw that both Torres and the girl were naked.

The officer allowed them to put on their clothes and learned that the two were about to have sex when they were interrupted.

Investigators said the that the 16-year-old girl was released to the custody of her grandfather while Torres was arrested.

Torres appeared before a Harlingen Municipal Court judge over the weekend where he was issued a $5,000 dollar bond.
