It all started with the arrest of Desiree Lee Padilla.
The 22-year-old Harlingen woman arrested by U.S. Marshals and Harlingen police in San Benito after being linked to a child pornography case in Corpus Christi.
“Police reports reveal Padilla would take pictures of her and a 2-year-old toddler posing in sexual positions and text messaging them to at least one man that was already under surveillance for child pornography,” Harlingen Police Sgt. Dave Osborne said.
Action 4 News went to Padilla's grandmother's home-Belia Gonzalez Segura–whom, invited us into her home speaking openly and calmly about the allegations against her granddaughter and her troubled past.
Belia explained how the 2-year-old victim had been abused for years.
“She was being abused since she was 8-months-old," Segura said.
Padilla's grandmother tells Action 4 News she noticed signs of abuse on the child’s private parts and says she notified child protective services.
She explained the child would often act out in fear and said when she was notified about the charges, she said the signs were all there.
After about 30 minutes into the interview, the tone of Belia Gonzalez Seguera changed.
That is when it became intense.
Belia Gonzalez Segura grabbed our camera, smashing it onto her living room floor without notice; sending parts of the camera across the floor.
I bent down to grab the card that contained the video.
That's when Belia lunged towards me, pulling me and pushing me.
A man inside the home quickly noticed the situation out-of-control, and tried to assist, but Belia began verbally attacking him.
Seconds later, she began assaulting me again.
Belia then lied to Harlingen police and told them she didn’t have my card containing my video.
Tonight she sits in Harlingen's jail charged with criminal mischief and assault.
Her granddaughter is now at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
She is charged with aggravated sexual assault.
Luckily, I made it out of the home shaken up but ok.
