Now that it is being categorized as an epidemic, millions of Americans are scrambling to prevent themselves from coming in contact with the flu.

Dr. Martha Cano with Valley Care Clinics and Carrie Lambrecht from South Texas Health Systems stopped by Action 4 Sunrise to keep your family safe.

A few tips given by these professionals are: take time to get a flu vaccine, avoid contact with sick people, stay home if you feel ill and always wash your hands with soap and water constantly.

If you think you are coming down with the flu, there are a few symptoms you should look out for: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.
