A Weslaco police officer has been placed off-duty after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Weslaco Police Chief Michael Kelley confirmed that the incident happened early Saturday morning.

Chief Kelley told Action 4 News that the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation.

Administrators did not release neither the details of the arrest nor the officer’s name on Tuesday.

But Hidalgo County Jail records show that Weslaco police arrested Elias Gomez on a DWI charge on Saturday.

The 26-year-old peace officer was released from jail that same day after posting a $2,000 personal recognizance bond.
