A 13-year-old boy is facing criminal charges for the weekend shooting death of his older cousin.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio spoke to Action 4 News about the investigation.

Sheriff Lucio reported that deputies are charging the boy with manslaughter for the death of 18-year-old Ricardo "Ricky" Ramos, Jr.

Investigators initially reported that Ramos was shot by a stray bullet but Lucio said deputies later learned new details about what happened.

Sheriff Lucio said the 13-year-old boy and Ramos were both outdoors when the boy pointed what he claimed was an unloaded rifle at Ramos.

The teen allegedly pulled the trigger and shot Ramos.

Paramedics rushed Ramos to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen were he died on Sunday.
