A Harlingen duo were arrested on Thursday after they were caught selling DVD’s they stole from Walmart.
Harlingen police received information about a suspicious man and woman leaving the Harlingen Walmart and heading to the Valley Vista Mall.
The police department’s Targeted Response Unit (TRU) walked into the Sam Goody store in the mall regarding new DVD’s that had just been sold by the suspected pair.
Officers made contact with Philip Williams Jr. and Kimberly Woodfork who were counting money in the mall’s food court.
A records check revealed that Williams had outstanding warrants. As an officer attempted to arrest him, Williams attempted to flee.
While the officer was trying to secure him, Williams assumed a “boxing stance”. He was eventually placed in handcuffs and under arrest.
The woman, Kimberly Woodfork, was detained for further questioning.
Both were taken to the city jail for processing. During booking, officers found Woodfork in possession of a clear plastic bag of marijuana.
Investigations revealed that Williams and Woodfork, went into Walmart and stole 8 DVD’s valued at $296.68.
They then went to Sam Goody and received money for the stolen DVD’s. All the DVD’s were recovered and the money Williams and Woodfork received was tagged and secured as evidence.
Williams was charged with two counts of theft, evading arrest, resisting arrest, and M/C warrants. His bonds totaled $37,000.
Woodfork was charged with theft and possession of marijuana. Her bonds were set at $5,500.
