Customs and Border Protection officers at the Anzalduas International Bridge seized large amount of drugs in two separate busts over the weekend.

In the first seizure, which happened Saturday morning, officers sent the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic for a secondary inspection after arriving at the bridge.

When officer inspected the car, they found about 68 pounds of cocaine hidden inside.

The driver and passenger, both from Monterrey, were arrested.

In a second seizure on Sunday, a 38-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from Mexico City attempted to cross the bridge, while driving a 2004 silver Volkswagon Touareg.

When the two presented their Mexican passports, they were referred to secondary inspection.

During that inspection, officers found 70 pounds of cocaine hidden in their car.

Both of the suspects were taken into custody.

“These were two significant seizures of narcotics that our officers at the Anzalduas Bridge intercepted this weekend,” said Efrain Solis Jr., Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

“The ability to utilize all available tools and resources and the great teamwork has enabled us to detect these failed drug smuggling attempts and seize these harmful narcotics from the drug trafficking organizations.”
