A family in Elsa still trying to come to grips with what happened in the early morning hours Tuesday on the Kennedy/Willacy County line.

“He was such a kind person.”

Jesamie Rodriguez’s brother, 18-year-old Enrique Rodriguez, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon that rolled over killing him and 3 others.

"He was my other half," Rodriguez said.

Enrique was living at Victory Outreach in Harlingen, a place his family says had changed his life.

"He was into drugs and was selling drugs. He was doing really bad so he was referred to this place in Harlingen," Rodriguez said.

The teen joined the Christian center which claims to bring at-risk teens closer to God. It apparently did just that for Enrique who was following a more productive path.

He was with his pastor's wife and several other members of the outreach returning from a work trip to Austin when his new found life was cut short.

"They were probably asleep which is why they didn't have their seatbelts on," says Jesamie, “things like this always happened but he was always lucky, he was saved.”

She last spoke to her brother a few days ago when they had dinner together and he was excited about what he was accomplishing.

There was no way of knowing they would be the last words she would ever hear him speak.

“He wanted to pray for us. He asked us to forgive him for everything he had put us through.”

Enrique’s funeral services begin at 10am Wednesday at Guerra Funeral Home in Elsa. Burial is set for 3pm Wednesday.
