Two teenage cousins faced a juvenile justice judge for their alleged roles in a fatal drive by shooting at a party in Edinburg.
Edinburg police reported that 17-year old Miguel Vasquez was killed following a disturbance at a party off South 29th Street on the night of October 5th.
Several people have been arrested on murder charges for Vasquez's death.
The two teenage girls appeared before Judge Jesse Contreras at Hidalgo County's Juvenile Justice Center on Monday morning.
Defense attorneys for the girls argued that their clients were at the "wrong place at the wrong time" and did not participate in the crime.
The girls told their attorneys that gang members picked them up to go to a party but that they didn't know they were armed.
Prosecutors allege that the girls are telling different versions of the story giving them reason to believe there is probable cause they know more than they are saying.
Judge Contreras ordered that the girls continue to be held until a November 7th hearing.
The judge asked for the school records and other materials from the girls to review at the hearing.
