Mission Police arrested a man accused of attacking another man with a machete during a Friday night argument, allegedly over an ex girlfriend.

The fight started at an apartment complex on the 800 block of 1st Street.

Witnesses said the victim was walking down the street where a party was taking place, when another man approached him.

They said the man confronted the victim and they started arguing over an ex girlfriend.

Witnesses also reported that the fight continued on to the street, where one of the men pulled out a machete and struck the victim several times.

Though he initially refused to go to the hospital, when officers arrived, they convinced the victim to get treated for minor injuries to his head, shoulder and fingers.

Relatives told Action 4 News the victim was released from the hospital, and allegedly took off to Houston for work.

Meanwhile, officers forcefully arrested the man with the machete, after he had disposed of it in a nearby trash can.

They took the man into custody; he is expected to face a judge on Saturday afternoon.

According to witnesses, both men were possibly under the influence of an unknown substance, but police have not confirmed it.

Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
