A San Benito father is facing criminal charges after he allegedly left his 2-year-old son in the car while he went shopping at a local supermarket.

San Benito police arrested 34-year-old Frank Jason Jalomo on a child abandonment charge on Wednesday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police were called to the HEB supermarket off Business 77 around 7:29 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness called police after seeing a 2-year-old boy inside a green 1997 GMC Jimmy SUV crying and asking for his father.

Police officers found Jalomo inside the store and police him under arrest.

The boy’s mother arrived at the scene and took custody of the child.

Jalomo appeared before San Benito Municipal Judge David Garza where he was issued a $3,000 dollar bond.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Child Protective Services has been notified about the incident.
