A Starr County man is facing extradition to the Houston area after being arrested for a murder that took place back in 1984.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Cruz Casanova Barrera in a home north of Roma on Tuesday.

Barrera is accused of killing his sister's common law husband back in Conroe, Texas back in 1984.

Investigators said an argument between the two got out of hand and ended with Barrera shooting him twice.

Barrera he fled to Mexico shortly after the fatal shooting.

Starr County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Barrera with 1,400 pounds of marijuana back in 1985.

But he posted bail and fled to Mexico once again.
