A Harlingen mother is facing criminal charges after a disturbance where she smashed things in her home, spit on a police officer and sent her young children to school alone.

Harlingen police have booked 30-year-old Evie P. Garcia on multiple criminal charges.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the incident actually happened on the 1100 block of East Madison Avenue back on September 24th.

Police officers were called out to a disturbance there where Garcia spit on a police officer in addition to yelling profanities, smashing items and overturning furniture.

Investigators said Garcia was mad after she overslept and her 5-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were late for school.

Garcia allegedly forced the children out of the house and sent them to school alone even though they were not familiar with the area.

Police said Garcia’s common law husband declined medical attention but was injured on his ankle by a broken piece of glass or ceramics.

A Child Protective Services employee found Garcia’s children off of East Jefferson Avenue and North 13th Street.

Garcia spent some time in the Harlingen Medical Center for treatment but was later released where police charged her with assault family violence, assault on a public servant and two counts of child endangerment.

The Harlingen mother appeared before a judge on Tuesday morning where she was issued $28,000 dollars in bonds.
