Election Day across the U.S. is drawing near and we want to make sure you are prepared to hit the polls this November.

On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome the Texas Secretary of State, Esperanza Hope Andrade to talk more about their initiative to motivate Texans to register to vote.

They've made all the information you would need to know about voting as accessible as you could have asked for. You can learn more on VoteTexas.gov, download the "SmartTXVoter" app on your android or iPhone device, "like" them on Facebook.com/votetexas or follow them on Twitter at @votetexas.

A hotline has also been created for someone to answer your questions, that number is: 1-800-252-VOTE.

Texas tends to have a low voter turnout and the state is determined to turn that around.

Registering to vote is easy and casting your ballot is even easier.

In 2008, the state of Texas had 13.5 million registered voters and only 8.1 million actually voted, that's just shy of 60% of registered voters.

Closer to home, the Rio Grande Valley currently has less than 500,000 registered voters in Cameron, Hidalgo and Starr combined.

If you are confused about the new law passed by Texas requiring a photo ID to vote, don't be.

Secretary Andrade said that will not go into effect for this election.

Acceptable identification to vote are as follows: drivers license or state issued ID, form of ID w/ a photograph that establishes your identity, birth certificate, passport, mail addressed to you by a government entity, current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or government check with your name and address.

Key dates and deadlines to remember:

                Election Day: Nov. 6

Deadline to register to vote: Oct. 9

First day of early voting: Nov. 2

Mail-in ballot application deadline: Oct. 30 (Received, not postmarked)
