Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose “mummified” remains were found near Brownsville’s Veterans International Bridge.

Border Patrol agents found the remains about a quarter mile from the bridge around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Brownsville police said the man’s body was mummified and had no identification.

Brownsville police said the body was in a badly decomposed state.

Investigators found a pair of boots, men's clothing, underwear and socks along with the remains.

It’s not clear if the body is that of a man from Mexico or local Brownsville resident.

Police said they will rely on forensic science to help determine the man’s identity.
