It was a traumatic day for a Brownsville family living on Dix Street.
A neighbor ran to the fire putting his own life at risk to help another neighbor.
Jesse Rivera said he'll never forget this morning.
He was awoken by a loud bang on his door on the other side a woman crying.
A neighbor from down the street desperately looking for help.
"I walked to the street and this lady ran to me begging me to help her that her husband son and grandson where in the house and it was on fire," said Jesse Rivera.
Jesse said he immediately dialed 9-1-1, grabbed a water hose and tried frantically to put out the fire.
Risking his own life, until finally realizing, there was nothing more he could do.
"It got out of control, the hairs in my arms started to burn so I had to step back," said Jesse Rivera.
Jesse has a granddaughter, he said.
The experience has been a traumatic one.
“Watching that baby boy being carried from the scorched home hit him pretty bad," he said. "At least I was able to call 9-1-1 and I tried to put out the fire out with water out but I mean I just went to church, I prayed for them."
The Brownsville Fire Department worked closely with an arson task force from Mission to assist in this deadly fire.
The fire remains under investigation.
