Suspect identified in Weslaco stolen tires murder

Authorities have identified the suspect in a rural Weslaco murder where the victim was gunned down over a set of stolen tires.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies reported that 21-year-old Ociel Alberto Castañeda is wanted on a murder charge.

Castañeda is accused of murdering Cristian Gerardo Landa early Sunday morning.

Court records show that Landa allegedly stole tires from Castañeda.

Investigators reported that Castañeda went looking for Landa and guned him down with an AK-47.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw Castañeda fleeing the scene with a high-powered rifle.

Castañeda may have fled to Mexico.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-TIPS.
