A Brownsville teen is behind bars after he allegedly sold generic Xanax pills to an undercover officer.

Brownsville police arrested 18-year-old Julio Cesar Hernandez after an undercover sting around 4 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said Hernandez sold nine pills of alprazolam to an undercover officer on the 1400 block of Price Road.

Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax, a drug only available by prescription in the United States.

Police said Hernandez also sold more pills to a 16-year-old right before making contact with the undercover officer.

Authorities charged Hernandez with delivery of a controlled substance, evading arrest and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.

Bond information was not immediately available.
