A baby boy is among four people left injured following an alleged hit-and-run accident involving alcohol in Harlingen.

The accident happened off Wilson Road and the Expressway 77 around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Harlingen police told Action 4 News that the driver of a maroon Chevrolet Z71 pickup rear-ended a grey Toyota Corolla and fled the scene.

Investigators found the Corolla on the concrete embankment of the expressway.

Paramedics transported two women and a 6-month-old boy inside the Toyota to the Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Witnesses gave police information that helped track down the suspect's truck to a home just off Wilson Road on Vista Verde Court.

Officers reported that the driver of the truck appeared intoxicated and had alcohol on his breath.

Authorities took the man to the Valley Baptist Medical Center for a mandatory blood draw and for other medical treatment.

The man is expected to face intoxication assault and accident involving injury charges once he is released from the hospital.

Family members of the baby are not commenting at this time but mother of the injured baby said her infant son is fighting for his life.

"Doctor told me last night he wouldn't make it through the night, his brain is swollen and doctors say it's a miracle he didn't die on impact, and it's a miracle if he survives," she wrote Action 4 News via email.
