A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly caught raping a young woman at knifepoint early Monday morning.

Harlingen police arrested 42-year-old Juan "Johnny" Orlando Gonzalez on an aggravated assault charge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers were called to West Darrell Wayne Shipp Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Both a 19-year-old victim and a witness told police what happened.

Knifepoint Rape

The 19-year-old woman told police that Gonzalez was knocking on the door when she answered it.

Gonzalez allegedly grabbed the young woman by the throat and pushed her on to the living room couch.

The Harlingen man allegedly showed the woman a knife, threatened to kill her and raped her.

The witness walked in on the act and confronted Gonzalez, who fled the scene.

Police arrested Gonzalez nearby and took him into custody.

Criminal Past

Gonzalez appeared before a Harlingen municipal court judge on Monday morning where he was issued a $700,000 dollar bond.

Court records show that Gonzalez lived in Houston before moving to his home off Vista Verde West Circle in Harlingen back in January 2009.

Gonzalez has a criminal history including burglary, theft and drugs going back to November 1989.

According to court records, the arrests took place in the Houston area and Harlingen.
