A Harlingen man is facing multiple criminal charges after being involved in a disturbance at a gentleman’s club and threatening a police officer.

Harlingen police arrested 25-year-old Basil Alejandro Azua early Saturday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Azua was involved in a disturbance at Whispers Gentlemen’s Club off Expressway 83.

Officers arrived at the club around 1:35 a.m. Saturday where they found Azua shirtless and being held back by another man.

Police said Azua was trying to fight with men in the parking lot and was arrested for public intoxication.

A police officer allegedly found a baggie of cocaine in his pocket prompting Azua to become verbally aggressive on the ride to the city jail.

Azua allegedly threatened the officer and tried lunging at him.

The officer and a jailer got Azua under control and placed him in a cell where he waited until his Saturday morning arraignment.

Azua appeared before a Harlingen municipal court judge where he was issued $105,000 dollars in bonds for possession of a controlled substance, retaliation and attempted assault on a public servant charges.

Court records show that Azua has a criminal history including drugs, burglary, drag racing and trespassing going back to 2005.
