A San Benito man is behind bars after being accused of sexually abusing a girl after being asked to babysit her while her mother was in the hospital giving birth.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 36-year-old Ramon Castañon Garcia on Friday.
The rural San Benito man is accused of sexually abusing a girl in at least two incidents over the past two years.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that the girl made an outcry at church two weeks ago prompting a criminal investigation.
Allegations
According to the girl, the sexual abuse started back when they live outside Brownsville in August 2010.
The girl told deputies Garcia was babysitting her and sexually abused her while the girl’s mother was giving birth to the girl’s baby brother.
Another incident took place after Garcia pushed the girl so hard that she had to take a pain pill back in June 2012.
Garcia allegedly sexually abused the girl while she was under the influence of the pill.
Behind Bars
The San Benito man is facing two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of assault.
Garcia appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Saturday where he was issued $75,000 dollars in bonds.
Court records show that Garcia has a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated.
Garcia remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
