The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the gunman in a Sunday morning shooting in Cameron Park.

Sheriff Omar Lucio said deputies responded to the shooting at about 5:45 a.m. on the 2000 block of Nannette Avenue.

According to investigators, two men had gotten in a fight in the middle of the street.

The fight caught the attention of Fulgencio de Leon, 30, who was drinking inside his home with a friend.

Sheriff Lucio said de Leon stepped out and tried to separate the fight between the two men in the middle of the street.

At that point, Lucio said one of the men involved in the fight pulled out a gun and shot de Leon six times.

Both men involved in the fight then took off running, as de Leon’s friend called police.

Paramedics rushed de Leon to Valley Regional Hospital with gun shot wounds to his hand, legs and back.

Sheriff Lucio said de Leon is expected to recover.

Witnesses were unable to provide a full description of the gunman, or the man he got into a fight with.

Deputies believe the gunman is in his 20’s, and that he used a small caliber handgun.

Sheriff Lucio urged anyone with information on the shooting to call their Crime Stoppers line at (956) 350-5551.
