The 38th annual Port Mansfield Fishing Tournament is set for this coming weekend with two days of fishing on Friday and Saturday, and good catches are expected in the bay and offshore divisions.

A recent trip out from Port Mansfield with Captain Terry Neal produced a Texas grand slam…flounder, trout and redfish.

"Lot of flounder have come back this year.  We went from no flounder a couple of years ago to everybody catching flounder this year,” said Captain Neal.

The fishing forecast for this weekend's tournament is very favorable.

Neal said, "The weather is looking good right now.   First time in three years we have not had a tropical storm of some kind knocking on the door out there.   Offshore guys are excited.  I think the weather is going to be good, and fishing has been hot all summer long."

Next up is a nice trout…leaping in the sunrise.  And after admiring the speckled trout, Captain Neal releases the fish.

And it does not take long to hook another.

A hefty redfish completes the grand slam.  The bay fishing is fine this day, and the offshore action is predicted to be equally as productive come tournament time.

"Offshore fishing has been real good this year…Lots of big snapper and the king fish are in already.  We even have some guys that are going to fish blue water to see if they can catch a marlin or sail fish,” Neal said.

So come on down to Port Mansfield for the 38th annual fishing tournament.  We'll see you at the dock this weekend.
