This year, Action 4 News will be teaming up with Atlas Elecrical and Air Conditioning as well as the Salvation Army of McAllen/Hidalgo county to help low income families “Beat the Heat”.

With the dog days of summer upon us, it’s hard for some to keep cool in the extreme heat because they cannot afford to pay a large electric bill.

The Salvation Army says they’ve had more than 200 requests for help.

Action 4 News is asking our viewers and community to take action by dropping off box fans, A/C units, and monetary donations at the Salvation Army in McAllen.

Donations can be made in person at 1600 N. 23rd Street in McAllen through August 30th during normal business hours.

Those needing assistance can apply at the same address or call (956) 682-1468.

Each applicant is pre-screened, and units will be given out based on need.
