Authorities are now confirming that there is a Matamoros connection to the armed kidnapping and murder of a Brownsville man.

Brownsville police continue to investigate the Wednesday death of 22-year-old Reyes Gilberto Bocanegra.

Gunmen stormed the Mariscos Playa Azul seafood restaurant off Military Highway early Wednesday afternoon.

The men threatened patrons and kidnapped Bocanegra inside his white Chevrolet Tahoe.

Border Patrol agents found the SUV with Bocanegra's body inside about 12 miles away in Rancho Viejo.

Brownsville police reported on Thursday morning that Bocanegra has previous arrests for aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Investiagtors believe Bocanegra's kidnapping and murder are drug-related.

Although police said the incident had ties to Matamoros but declined to say if it was drug-cartel related.
