Authorities are investigating reports that shots were fired at a crop dusting plane in a rural area of Hidalgo County.
It all happened just in the Delta Lake area near Edcouch around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The pilot was not injured but reported that someone fired shots at his plane.
Both the Willacy County and Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the incident.
Investigators told Action 4 News that a pilot with Rowland Dusters was flying near the Delta Lake area when he saw a puff of smoke.
The pilot didn't think anything of it and landed back at the company's air strip off Highway 186 and FM 88 just west of Lasara.
But deputies said the pilot noticed a bullet hole in the right wing of the crop dusting plane.
Authorities are now searching remote areas of northeast Hidalgo County in search of the source of the gunfire.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirms that they are also investigating the incident.
FAA officials told Action 4 News that it is a federal crime to shoot at a crop duster or any other type of aircraft.
Authroities seached a home off Nitler Road and questioned a man about the incident.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño told Action 4 News that deputies may be filing deadly conduct charges.
Sheriff Treviño said the man who fired the shots has been complaining about the crop dusters for years
Deputies seized long rifles and small caliber guns from the man's house but are not sure which one had been used in the shooting.
