A life-long resident in the town of Sebastian is surprised with $400 for her selfless acts of kindness on Pay it 4Ward.

Francis Rodriguez would give the shirt off her back for anyone in the community, according to friends who know her best.

But life lately hasn't been easy for Francis.

Her husband suffered a heart attack and can no longer work, and her son Joe died recently in a motorcycle accident.

But through it all, Francis continues to give back.

Larry Rincones, a founding board member at the Martin Cavazos Center in Sebastian where Francis volunteers, nominated her for the Pay it 4Ward prize.

She's told to meet at the center to discuss possible summer programs there.

Action 4's Ryan Wolf catches Francis by surprise.

Ryan: Let me let you in on a little secret.  This has nothing to do today about the volunteer center and everything to do with you and the heart that you possess.  Larry share with her why we're here.

Larry: You've done things that others couldn't do.  You've taken time from your family to be here to help with the food pantry, to help with our youth program, to help with our clothing distribution in our community.  You really represent the best in the human spirit for all of us.  The best in Sebastian.  On behalf of Pronto Insurance and Action 4 News here's $400 to Pay it 4Ward.

Francis: God bless every single one of them, because without God's help I wouldn't have done it.

Francis continues to give even in the face of unimaginable pain.

Ryan: "Is Joe watching over us right now?

Francis: Oh yes.  Most definitely.  He is.  And there's not a day that goes by that he doesn't show that he's with us and I feel that he's with us even at this moment, telling me, good job mom.

Francis wants to buy a monument for her son's gravesite.

Pronto Insurance explains how her Pay it 4Ward $400 prepaid Pronto MasterCard can help out.

"It's loaded with $400 for you.  You can utilize it anywhere you want.  You can pay online and you can even open a savings account," Domingo Reyna said.  "We're proud to present to you this gift."

Larry hopes Francis' story inspires others to selflessly give back.

"To do something with their own time to contribute or contribute their own resources in their own community to recognize someone to continue to Pay it 4Ward," he said.

Francis' late son's fiancé, Angela De Leon, is at the center for the big surprise.

"He was just like her," she said.  "He would take the shirt off his back for anybody.  If it was his last dollar, his last twenty, he'd give it up."

The community has set up a benefit fund where donations can be made to help Francis buy a monument for her son.

Monetary donations will be accepted at any Frost Bank across the Valley under the Francis Rodriguez Benefit Fund.
