Edinburg city crews have discovered human remains.

Edinburg police confirmed on Tuesday that a human skull and other bones were found inside a canal off Raul Longoria and Freddy Gonzalez Roads.

Crews were cleaning out the canal near Cano Gonzalez Elementary School when they came across the bones.

It's not clear how the person died or how their remains ended up there but authorities are treating the discovery as a homicide.

An autopsy has been ordered to help learn the identity of the body and how the person died.
