A La Paloma man is behind bars after being accused of raping a woman and threatening to kill her.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Humberto Tapia  early Saturday morning.

The 42-year-old man is accused of sexual assault, terroristic threats and assault.

Court records released on Monday show deputies were called out to a home off Las Cipres Road just after 2 a.m. Saturday.

A woman at the home told deputies that Tapia came home and grabbed her by the neck.

Tapia allegedly told the woman that she was his for life and that he would kill her before letting her go with another person.

The woman told deputies that Tapia threatened to "cut her guts out" with a knife he owned if he didn't have sex with him.

Tapia allegedly made the woman take a shower but he fell asleep while she was in the bathroom. That's when she called the sheriff's department.

The woman told deputies that Tapia had forced her to have sex with him at least three times just two days before.

Tapia remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $40,000 dollars in bonds.

He does not appear to have a previous criminal history.
