A Cameron County man remains behind bars for two domestic disturbances where he allegedly bit his wife and tried to pop her eye out.

Cameron County Pct. 4 deputy constables arrested 29-year-old David Martinez at a home off FM 1847 in Rio Hondo late Tuesday night.

Court records released on Thursday show Martinez is accused of a domestic violence incident where he attacked his common law wife.

Martinez allegedly choked her, bit her in the arm, pressed his fingers into one of her eyes and tried to pull it out.

Deputy constable found the 33-year-old woman with bruises as well as bleeding on her arm and her right eye.

But court records show that it's not the first domestic violence incident between the two.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies were called out to a home for a domestic disturbance at Martinez's home off Camino Del Rey in San Benito back on May 6th.

Martinez had been drinking, got in an argument with her, allegedly tore up a photo of her children and bit her on the eyebrow.

The records show that Martinez's father rescued the woman in the May 6th attack.

Deputies charged Martinez with two counts of aggravated assault family violence.

Martinez appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Wednesday morning.

Judge Edelstein issued an emergency protective order for the woman and $55,000 dollars in bonds for Martinez.

He remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail as of Friday morning.
