A Cameron County mother is facing criminal charges after she allegedly left her two young children home alone.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 32-year-old Nicolasa Barrera on Tuesday night.

The Brownsville woman is accused of leaving her 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son alone at a home in Olmito.

Court records released on Wednesday show Barrera dropped them off at a home off Beddoes Avenue where nobody was home but the door was unlocked.

The 6-year-old girl said the door was unlocked so they let themselves in.

Records show that the children didn't find anyone inside the house and went back out to tell their mother but she had already left.

The children's other relatives came home and found them inside the house alone.

Deputies found Barrera at her home off Paredes Line Road where she denied leaving the children unattended.

The Brownsville woman is out on $10,000 dollars in bonds for two child abandonment/endangerment charges.
