Wednesday was National HIV Testing Day throughout the U.S. and it's an important awareness day due to the high number of people that continue to be infected each year.

Oscar Lopez with the Valley AIDS Council stopped by Sunrise this morning to let you know where and how to get tested along with some alarming new statistics.

Here in the valley, a staggering growing number of teens are now infected with the HIV virus.

The non-curable disease is now easier than ever to detect your status on whether you are positive or negative.

Too many people do not know they have the disease, putting you at risk of catching the virus. In the United States, nearly 1.2 million people are living with the disease, and almost one in five don't know they are infected.

If you are currently living with HIV, receiving medical attention and taking medication on a regular basis helps you live a longer life.

Keeping yourself medicated also lowers the chances of passing HIV on to others.
