Los Compadres in Edinburg is cooking up trouble on Food 4 Thought.
"Oh my god," customer Mary Valdez said about the violations.
The restaurant on 1012 South Closner scores 26 demerits on a health report.
A kitchen cop finds a refrigerator off-temperature by nearly 20 degrees.
The report also indicates food handlers are not washing hands, there are no paper towels for proper sanitation and there's mold in the ice machine.
They are the kinds of kitchen conditions Mary and her daughter Ashley Valdez never expected to hear about at Los Compadres.
"I don't want to pay for mold in the ice machine," Ashley said.
The food patrol is not allowed in the kitchen.
Management is also not around to answer questions about the dirty dining.
Mold in the ice machine also turns up at the Tejano Mart on the corner of Business 83 and Airport Drive in Weslaco.
A manager admits the ice machine was dirty but tells the Food Patrol she never spotted the mold.
The health report makes the cross contamination violation pretty clear.
Other no-no's include wilted peppers, an inaccessible hand wash facility, off-temperature ground beef and dirty equipment, according to the report.
There 28 demerits in all.
De Cache in Edinburg has roaches.
It's the second year in a row the restaurant on 417 East Schunior has been featured by the Food Patrol for dirty dining.
Anna Cantu is the restaurant's manager.
"I don't know why it happened... But we try to be very clean," she said about the roaches.
Pollito and Vaquita on 715 Frontage Road in Alamo is this week's featured top performer with zero demerits on a health report.
The kitchen has been open for less than 3 months but already it's proving to be a cut above the rest when it comes to clean.
The staff hopes their top performer sticker will help guide hungry customers inside.
"It's a safe place for them to come and eat," Prince Villarreal, a cashier said.
