It is a new routine for Sergeant Cesar Saenz.

Instead of going straight to the office to start his day—he heads to these kennels located just off of Highway 83 in La Joya.

Greeting him his new partner Ozina.

She is only 2-years-old but has already earned high marks as the newest member of the La Joya police department.

"I have an extra set of hands and eyes,” Saenz explained. “She's always alert---watching out for me and other officers that are with me."

In the shot time they have been partnered up, Sanez said he and Onzina have already secured a special bond.

"She already knows me...every time I come to pick her up she starts jumping and barking."

That bond is something that will come in handy if Saenz is ever placed in a dangerous situation.

He added, while Ozina will be used to track drugs that will not be her only specialty….she will also be on the forefront of tracking people who might be lost—trying to survive the sweltering Texas heat.
