A San Benito woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly did not report the sexual abuse of her 9-year-old family member.
San Benito police arrested 25-year-old Lorena Treviño Mendiola at an apartment complex off Gil Drive on Tuesday night.
Investigators told Action 4 News that the girl made an outcry to family members in Houston about what had happened.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Mendiola after learning that she knew about the sexual abuse and didn’t report it.
According to police, the suspect in the case was Mendiola’s ex-husband.
Officers arrested Mendiola for failing to stop or report aggravated sexual assault of a child and a past theft of service charge.
Mendiola appeared before San Benito Municipal Judge Ben Yudesis who issued $45,000 dollars in bonds.
