A Border Patrol agent is behind bars in Cameron County after being accused of sexually abusing a child.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 29-year-old Jason Edward Gamboa on Wednesday.

Jail records show that Gamboa is accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Sheriff Omar Lucio told reports that Gamboa climbed into bed with a 9-year-old girl at his home and fondled her.

The girl told deputies that Gamboa made her fondle him too.

Sheriff Lucio said the Border Patrol agent claimed he was drunk and did not know what he was doing.

Border Patrol officials confirmed the arrest but are not releasing more information at this time.

Public records show that Gamboa lives at a home off Firewheel Lane in the Olmito area.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
