If you have filled up your gas tank lately, you may have noticed that the price of fuel is going down.

AAA reports that gas prices are on the decline.

But does the dip in prices have Rio Grande Valley residents planning to hit the road?

Reporter: “I wanted to know if you are going to be traveling this Memorial Day weekend?

“No, I'm staying home,” said a Harlingen man.

His sentiments were echoed by another resident.

“Not this memorial day weekend, gas is pretty expensive," he said.

These Valley residents won't join the ranks of millions of Americans who plan to drive to their destination.

According to AAA, 1.2 percent more people will travel this year than last.

Despite the recent savings at the pump, the current gas prices still have a significant portion of people watching their budgets.

“This sucker eats lots of fuel but it takes diesel not gas,” said one driver.

Reporter: “How much do you spend filling up your tank?”

Customer: “About $140 a week.”

If you do decide to travel, drivers should expect to see an increase in state patrols on the highway.

Besides packing that wallet to pay for that gas this Memorial Day Weekend, experts also recommend you pack one more thing, patience.

Double the Americans are expected to hit the road this holiday season.
